Augmented reality treasure hunt (Virtual Zoo)

The client: Colliers International is a global commercial real estate services organization.

Challenge: How can we host a COVID safe event in a shopping centre that allows families have some fun out of the house?

 Goals

  • To produce memorable brand moments and experiences
  • To enable families have some safe fun out of the house
  • To enhance social media presence

Solution: We knew that augmented reality activities are one of the best (if not the best) solutions to deliver social distancing friendly and COVID safe events and provide safe kids activations. Augmented reality treasure hunt is a fun way to help families and particularly kids interact with virtual characters using their mobile phones. The shopping centre chose the zoo theme. Shoppers had to find and scan floor decals which were placed around the shopping centre to bring to life zoo animals. There were six animals throughout the shopping centre that they can search for. They were able to walk around animals, spin them and resize them to take pictures or videos with the animals. Shoppers were encouraged to take photos or videos with animals and post on social media with shopping centre’s hashtag for a chance to win gift vouchers.

Outcome: The AR markers were scanned 760 times by the shoppers during the one-week event. The virtual tiger was the most popular animal among the shoppers. The tiger marker was scanned 185 times.
