Middleton Beach Festival – City of Albany

The client: City of Albany. Albany is a city at the southern tip of Western Australia. It's known for its beaches, such as popular Middleton Beach.

Challenge: How can we entertain people of all ages (locals and tourists) during a 7-day beach festival? Are there any ways to increase repeat event attendance and entertain attendees who come back to play VR games?

  • To keep locals and tourists entertained
  • To create a memorable event experience
  • To create a sense of excitement and novelty
  • To enhance overall attendees’ satisfaction

Solution: We provided both virtual reality and augmented reality activities to entertain event goers. Virtual reality enabled people of all ages to go under water and see different sea animals, and augmented reality enabled kids to create sea animals and bring them to life using mobile phones/tablets. To increase repeat event attendance and entertain attendees who come back, we had different VR options for each day and we organised VR tournaments. At the end of each day (tournament), prizes were given away to the winners by the council.

Outcome: The tournaments created a festival feel and provided a fantastic opportunity for local people and tourists to feel inspired playing VR games and sports. Many families encouraged their children to participate in the tournament and/or to win prizes. Event goers were surprised how immersive the underwater experience was. The event organisers were pleased with our VR/AR services.
